THE OPPORTUNITY
A key member of the leadership team, the SVP Finance is accountable for the development and continuous improvement of enterprise-wide business and financial strategy and supporting initiatives in alignment with GS1 Canada’s strategy to ensure the organization continues to be well-positioned to add value to the subscriber community. The SVP Finance reports to two Co-Presidents and oversees a team of 16.
Bringing a financial lens to the interpretation and delivery of the new three-year strategic plan, the SVP will focus their efforts in four critical areas:
u Strategic Partner: contribute to the strategic planning process, demonstrating a strong understanding of the external market, existing business and value proposition; ensure the appropriate measurement of strategic initiatives, including robust financial modelling, forward-thinking insights, and identification of key metrics; lead the management of the corporate and board scorecards’ contribution to the strategic vision; lead and guide Executive and Management teams in business drivers and value-generation opportunities, service and customer segmentation, and gaps to critical mass adoption.
u Finance and Accounting Excellence: lead the evolution of the organization’s financial practices; build a responsive and flexible budgeting process, integrating financial practices and accountability into all areas of the business while ensuring efficiency and efficacy of financial reporting and analysis; create a simple, robust, flexible and understandable pricing model that resonates with customers and ensures cost recovery; continuous improvement of Financial team’s capability, functional systems, work processes, policies and governance; drive the development of financial acumen across all areas of the business.
u Steward: protect the vital assets of the company and, along with the entire leadership team, protect the ongoing financial health and sustainability of the organization; create transparency around the financial health of the organization, and ensure compliance with financial regulations; communicate risk and value appropriately, develop strategies and process to mitigate risk across the organization, and ensure the appropriate risk management and financial controls are in in place; participate in the broader governance and risk management practices of the organization in partnership with technology, cyber security, human resources and legal.
u Catalyst: drive growth through the ability of the organization to identify the financial return on investment of potential growth opportunities; create a system for measuring and communicating the value that solutions and standards deliver to customers; protect the non-profit status of the organization while ensuring opportunities for growth are identified; oversee financial advice on the research, development and feasibility of new solutions and operational effectiveness; generate creative ideas that address sector/subscriber needs.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
The ideal candidate will demonstrate the following experience, knowledge, skills and attributes:
u Senior finance generalist with deep experience overseeing all financial aspects of the business, including financi
al planning, controllership, accounting, risk and costing in a relevant business of similar or larger scope/scale and complexity.
u Strong financial planning, modelling and risk management experience to support product development, business management and future growth.
u Thinks and acts strategically, anticipates future direction and proactively builds plans in partnership with others to create future capacity.
u Creates consensus through collaboration and facilitation; excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to establish credibility and co-operatively build and manage relationships across the organization, including with the Board.
u Generates creative ideas that address business needs, add value to the business and support strategic initiatives.
u A skilled change leader who has successfully managed integrated changes across the organization; brings a continuous improvement mindset and has led implementation of and/or is experienced in ERP automation systems.
u Achieves results through others; works in partnership with all areas of the business to align accountability for results against performance measures.
u A talent champion who leads, motivates, coaches and holds accountable a team aligned to GS1’s values and principles of shared responsibility and shared success.
